Here is a quick roundup of the latest news from around Las Vegas.
MGM Resorts Launches All-Inclusive Packages at Luxor and Excalibur
MGM Resorts is rolling out new all-inclusive vacation packages at Luxor Hotel & Casino and Excalibur Hotel & Casino. One price covers the hotel room, meals, entertainment, parking, and resort fees. Rates start at $330 plus tax for two people for two nights. Stays begin April 6, with variable pricing and no blackout dates.
Each package includes three meals a day per guest, available at Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, and New York-New York. Guests also get two tickets to an MGM Resorts show plus a ride on the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York. With the recent economic slowdown and the mounting burden of resort and parking fees, the packages look like a real effort to give visitors a more affordable way to enjoy Las Vegas.
Rooms are priced for two but sleep up to four. Additional guests pay a separate fee and cover their own meals, ride passes, and show tickets.
NFL Expected to Pick Las Vegas for the 2029 Super Bowl
The NFL is expected to select Las Vegas as the host city for the 2029 Super Bowl, ESPN reported Wednesday.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, NFL owners will vote on the Super Bowl LXIII site at their meeting next week, and one source described the vote as little more than a formality. Once it becomes official, it will be the second Super Bowl played at Allegiant Stadium, which opened in 2020. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime there to win Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
The day after that game, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hinted that more Super Bowls could follow, telling the Las Vegas host committee that the hospitality had been outstanding and that the league looked forward to returning. The NFL typically chooses Super Bowl host cities three to four years in advance, rotating among cities that stay warm in February or have domed stadiums.
Frequent hosts include Glendale, Arizona; Miami and Tampa Bay, Florida; Inglewood and Santa Clara, California; Atlanta; and New Orleans.
Thousands Turn Out for the Bar & Restaurant Expo
Thousands of hospitality and restaurant professionals attended the 40th annual Bar and Restaurant Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Tuesday, March 24. The event drew owners, operators, managers, and bartenders hunting for new food, drink, and technology trends, and the floor was packed with chef demonstrations, hands-on training, and sessions on running a bar or restaurant more efficiently.
Brandi Rand, the expo's vice president of hospitality, said more than 8,000 people attended. She called it the one place where operators can discover new products and find everything they need to run their business well, from cutting-edge technology to the latest drink trends, food, and equipment.
The expo also featured a chef's stage with live cooking demonstrations and a bar showcasing drink trends from zero-proof options to cocktails. Savannah Woods of Sin City Creative Media Marketing said the show gives local businesses a chance to meet potential customers face to face. Shaking someone's hand, she said, makes an entirely different impression than an email or a cold call, and letting a company's personality show is what matters most.
