las vegas men and women

By Chase Jeong

It's been almost 40 years since I wrote a column about men and women, starting with the manuscript generation, going through the typewriter that made a cheerful crackling sound every time I typed the key, and then the 386 computer and hard drive. Although the reality is that Jung is still unable to escape from the life of a glamorous single, or, to be more honest, a lonely and miserable single, just because he can't cut his hair, writing about men and women is always exciting and exciting.

It's already been almost 6 years since I started working as a casino dealer, so the daily lives of another man and woman I didn't know before seem interesting. Because I am the type of person who never believes anything unless I have seen and felt it myself, I am now painfully realizing that there are many strange people in the world. Today, I would like to talk about the unique experiences of an American man and woman seen from the perspective of a dealer in the middle of Las Vegas, or from the eyes of a third party, a Korean woman.

American girls are surprisingly patient =====

Due to the nature of the city of Las Vegas, there are many occupations mainly in the service industry, so naturally, rather than being a group of white people born and raised in the United States, the city is overflowing with people of various skin colors who have immigrated from many other countries! Maybe that's why you can especially often see couples between an Asian woman and a white man in Las Vegas. These days, I realize that no matter how much I try to pretend to be a new generation and not an old man, it is difficult to completely shake off the Confucianism that comes with age. I noticed something unusual while looking at an original white man and woman couple, not the patient Asian woman and the white man known for being selfish. While the man sits at the table and plays the game, the white girls just stand in the background. Even for several hours.

In other words, they don't play games together, and only the men focus on the game. Since spectators cannot sit on chairs together, the woman naturally stands in the back. I don't watch the game, and I don't care how much money I won or lost. I just wait, usually three or four hours. The same goes for blackjack tables and dice tables where dice are thrown. Even when boys curse when they lose money or cheer when they win, women stand behind them. Many young girls do that. It can't be anything other than a strange thing. Aren't you bored? Don’t your legs hurt?? I'm sure they must have been on a trip together, but it's surprising how they just stood there for hours doing nothing and just watching like an invisible person. I can't, no I can't. I don't know how much I love you, but anyway, I absolutely cannot understand it with my common sense.

American men willingly give up children born through cheating =====

According to common sense, most people just stand up while playing a game, but surprisingly, there are many kids who come to work with me and leave work with me. This means that there are quite a few kids who sit at one table and play games for more than 8 hours. As a result, there are often cases where I have no choice but to listen to various stories about my personal life, and there are some situations that even I, who have an awakened mind, cannot understand. This doesn't necessarily happen only in Las Vegas. To put it simply, a man and a woman were dating, and the woman cheated on him and became pregnant with the other man's child. Nevertheless, the fact that my girlfriend is pregnant seems to affect them more strongly than the fact that she cheated! The girl's parents also bless and encourage her more than the drama of cheating and getting pregnant.

Of course, there are many people who are not like that, but from what I have personally seen and heard in many cases, it truly cannot be the end of the world. From a man's point of view, I have seen many cases where his girlfriend, with whom he did not share even a single drop of blood, had a child born from an affair, and was raised on the family register. No matter how deeply ingrained a culture that values human life is in an open sexual culture, it is truly difficult to understand. From my perspective. An issue that heated up Korea a while ago was that my wife died during childbirth, and since the child was a child born to an adulterous man, opinions were divided as to whether it was appropriate to put it on my family register. However, in the United States, where marriage and divorce are much freer than in Korea, the attachment to the child she already had was beyond imagination. The world is wide, and things I don't even want to understand are unfolding right next to me today.

American kids giving up on marriage to take care of their parents =====

There is a boss at our hotel who I have a secret crush on. He is a tall hotel manager who must be a few years younger than me (they never tell me his age. I can only imagine it, there is no way to know). I was surprised that the bachelor, who had a good-looking appearance and a sad image, had never been married. When I found out the reason, I found out that my father had been suffering from severe cancer for a long time and that I had missed several opportunities to get married because they were living together and taking care of him.

There is a young bachelor I met at the park while walking my dog, the second love in the world, every day. He is a healthy bachelor who walks around with a very cute and ugly bulldog. When I asked him why he was single, he said that he couldn't get married because he was taking care of his sick mother. What kind of woman in the world would live in the same house with her sick mother-in-law? She gave up marriage because she had no one to take care of her mother other than herself.

A friend who sells solar energy panels that are attached to the roof and used instead of electricity had bad credit because of his mother. While visiting famous hospitals all over the country to treat his mother's terminal illness, he was unable to work properly, squandered his assets, and was unable to make money. In the end, his credit, which is more important than money in the United States, was completely ruined. In the end, after my mother passed away, I was over 50 and started over from the bottom.

Couple of man and woman who will not get married even if they die =====

If you listen to the stories of chaebols that are commonly seen in the news, you can easily come across articles such as what their boyfriend is like, what their girlfriend is like, how many children they have had together, etc. It's not just the story of the chaebol, but there are quite a few cases where American kids fall in love with each other and live together, have children and live together for decades, but never get married. I really don't understand that. I guess I'm old... I guess I really am an old guy... Some say. Why are you getting married? Just live in love. At this age, is there anything you can do to make food, flirt with men, and have sex? How comfortable is it living alone? Just relax and date!! That's it. If you meet people like that, it won't be a problem at all.

But I think a little differently. I am one of those who strongly support the system of marriage, where a ring on a finger does not own the whole world, but it is a lifelong promise based on trust and love, so a greater degree of responsibility and obligation is given to each other than a casual relationship. Let's ask the opposite. Just do it as a sexual partner, just enjoy it, and as soon as you get into trouble, say bye-bye and you’re clean. Do you need to share money, do you need to doubt and fight, just date? Why do the unfair thing of loving only one person for the rest of your life? Live comfortably alone!! … … … … … . Of course, this was a bit of an extreme example, but many American kids live together like that but don't get married. If this is the trend of the times, a trend these days that older Korean women can never understand, then I have nothing to say. I just wish I had one person to love for the rest of my life without any conditions.

The way kids live these days, as seen from Las Vegas, is quite different from the way I lived. Sometimes I am startled, and other times I am so impressed that I hit my knees. Thinking that our parents' generation must have felt so sorry for us just makes me smile bitterly. The fate of a man and a woman who are burdened with a lifetime of unsolvable tasks may be something they must endure and live naturally rather than moving toward a specific conclusion. Although we are of different ages, cultures, personalities, and races, the one thing we all have in common is that we cannot live without love. Isn't it because of one thing, love, which is the simplest yet also the most difficult thing in the world, that we are enduring even more desperately in the fierce battlefield of life today?
